Gymstar - UNAVAILABLE

Gymstar allows recreational gymnasts to participate in competitions that are structured to be enjoyable, positive and supportive.

The Gymstar program is designed to be used within clubs as a program framework inclusive of both boys and girl’s apparatus, making it available for all. The emphasis is on the execution of skills and performance of routines rather than difficulty.

Gymstar is perfect for gymnasts who train limited hours or prefer a less competitive environment.

Gymstar allows gymnasts to compete on the following apparatus:

Floor, Beam, Vaults, Bars, Rings and Parallel Bars

ALP

The Australian Levels Program (ALP) is a competitive stream of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG). It is a highly structured program that allows the gymnasts to develop their gymnastics skills, confidence, strength, flexibility and passion for gymnastics in preparation for competitions and for learning harder skills as they progress through the levels.

Classes are still fun and enjoyable with focus on teamwork, positive attitudes and personal growth.

Selection into this program is by invitation only. Gymnasts selected for WAG ALP show body control, strength, flexibility and coordination.

Hard work is essential in this program especially once the gymnasts reach level 3 and above as these levels compete at external competitions and their routines are getting progressively more difficult.

Gymnasts will develop and compete compulsory routines on Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor in ALP 1 to ALP 6 and optional routines with set criteria from ALP 7.

Additionally, we aim that in this program the gymnasts build their self-confidence and resilience by challenging themselves during training and through experiencing competitions at a varying level of seriousness.

As a club we aim to help gymnasts build these characteristics by challenging them during training and helping with skill development in an encouraging, supportive, positive team environment.

Our ALP program is broken down into 3 sections

Development, Junior and Senior.

Development includes ALP 1 & 2

Junior includes ALP 3,4,5 & 6

Senior includes ALP 7,8,9 & 10

TeamGym  - UNAVAILABLE

This TeamGym program developed by both Gymnastics Australia & Gymnastics Victoria provides a pathway for recreational and elite gymnasts. TeamGym is one of the fastest growing and most exciting sports in gymnastics, first developed in Northern Europe, this highly popular sport is now expanding to other continents.

TeamGym incorporates the following apparatus in a team competition:
- Floor
- Tumbling
- Single Mini Trampoline

All 3 apparatus are performed to music making it an exciting and engaging event for spectators and teams.

Gymnasts compete in teams of 6-12 participants to showcase their skills and work together to provide performances that will have the audience on the edge of their seats.

Teams can compete in one of 5 levels, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Open and International and can be single gender or mixed with no restrictions on age groups.

Never used a single mini trampoline before or not interested in learning a floor routine, you just want to practice your tumbling skills? No problem, participants can pick and choose which performances they want to be part of as long as there is a minimum of 6 for each performance.

We have 3 teams

Rhythmic - UNAVAILABLE

This is a new program for Benalla Gymnastics.

Rhythmic Gymnastics incorporates dance, music, gymnastic skill and handheld apparatus.

Harmony between the gymnast, the apparatus and the music plus required difficulties are necessary to achieve a balanced composition. The apparatus must be used in both hands, thrown into the air and be kept in constant motion.

Rope
The rope may be in hemp or of a synthetic material which retains the qualities of lightness and suppleness. Fundamental requirements include leaps over the rope and skipping. Other elements include swings, throws, circles, rotations and figures of eight.

Hoop
The hoop may be plastic or wood. Fundamental requirements include rotation around the hand or body and rolling. Swings, circles, figures of eight, throws, passes through and over the hoop are other elements which should be included. Because of its size (80 - 90cm in diameter) technical handling is difficult.

Ball
The ball is made of rubber or synthetic material and is 18 - 20cm in diameter. It should rest in the gymnast's hand and not rest against the wrist or be able to be grasped. Fundamental elements include throwing, bouncing or rolling. The gymnast must use both hands and work on the whole floor area whilst showing continuous flowing movement.

Clubs
The clubs are made of wood or synthetic material and characterised by rhythmical tapping. Fundamental elements include mills and small circles, asymmetric movements, throwing and catching. The Clubs must be used in both hands and in one hand. It is one of the more difficult pieces of apparatus to use.

Ribbon
The ribbon is 6 metres in length and probably the most popular event for the spectators. The movements should be large, smooth and flowing. It requires a high degree of co-ordination to form the spiral and circles as any knots which accidentally form in the ribbon are penalised. Fundamental elements include swings, circles, serpents and spirals.

Tumbling - UNAVAILABLE

Our tumbling program is a program for children that would like to learn how to tumble and flip in a safe environment.

This can also be for gymnasts in our competitive program who wish to hone their tumbling skills or gymnasts in our TeamGym program who improve their skills.

There can also be a competitive component if the gymnast wishes, Competitors perform two voluntary passes. A tumbling pass demonstrates forward, backward and sideward hands to feet and feet to feet rotational elements. The elements should be presented showing good control, form, execution and maintenance of tempo. In elite tumbling, passes consist of eight skills performed on a 25 metre sprung floor. In age group and levels tumbling, passes consist of five skills (short-track) that could be performed on a modified tumbling floor, for example an Artistic Gymnastics floor or an ‘aerotrack’.
